Serves as Deputy Commissioner for the Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges. In collaboration with the Commissioner, First Deputy Commissioner and Executive Deputy Commissioner formulates and plans overall agency engineering policy; develops and monitors the 10 Year Bridges Capital Plan of approximately $13 billion and the annual expense budget nearly$80 million (PS) and $30 million (OTPS); provides executive direction to all areas of the Division of Bridges involved in the design, construction, reconstruction/rehabilitation (including Design Build method), maintenance and operation of the 796 City-owned roadway, waterway and movable bridges, tunnels, and related structures including along major corridors such as Brooklyn Queens Expressway and Belt Parkway; coordinates with federal and state governmental entities on bridge and related structure projects; manages a diverse group of 781 managerial, professional, technical, trade, labor and administrative employees some of which are involved in 24/7 operations and emergency response, as well as monitoring and evaluating private consultants and contractors; coordinates and collaborates with other divisions in the agency; develops short- and long-term organizational strategies for the division; stays on top of leading edge technologies.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and 4 years of satisfactory experience of a nature to qualify for the duties and responsibilities of the position, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, consultative or executive capacity or supervising personnel performing activities related to the duties of the position; or 2. A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive, consultative or supervisory experience described in "1" above.
A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer is preferred. In addition, candidates must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative engineer.
