Bucknell University seeks an accomplished academic and outstanding administrative leader to serve as its next Richard E. Garman Dean of the College of Engineering (COE). As chief academic and administrative officer of the College, the Dean is responsible for the budget and curriculum, and for leading an engineering faculty dedicated to teaching excellence and a sustained engagement in scholarship. The University is seeking a visionary, collaborative, and experienced decision-maker eager to join an already outstanding undergraduate academic environment, who will take the lead in elevating the College of Engineering to its next level of excellence.
Bucknell University is a highly selective, privately endowed, unique national university where liberal arts and professional programs complement each other in three colleges – the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the Freeman College of Management. Bucknell offers baccalaureate degree programs to approximately 3,700 undergraduates and master's degree programs to 30 students. Bucknell has taken its place among the nation’s elite academic institutions, but the University strives to do more. The Dean will leverage opportunities offered by the College of Engineering’s distinct academic offerings and high-quality educational experience to further its goals and lead it into the future.
The Dean will arrive at a time of clear expectations and excitement for the future with new University and College strategic plans, an outstanding student-focused faculty, committed staff, eager students, and an opportunity to manage change and leave a lasting imprint on the College. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean leads all academic, administrative, and budgetary aspects of the College of Engineering. The Dean works closely and collaboratively with the President and the Operations & Management Group (OMG) to manage Bucknell's resources and achieve its academic and institutional goals.
The successful candidate will present superb academic credentials and experience that easily qualify for appointment as a full professor with tenure at the College of Engineering. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to academic excellence and academic judgment; a deep commitment to diversity in all its forms; an ability to articulate persuasively a compelling vision for the future of undergraduate engineering education at the College; a demonstrated track record of interdisciplinary thinking; strategic, visionary, and entrepreneurial leadership; an ability to champion the benefits of a combined engineering and liberal arts education; a passion for serving at a student-focused and largely undergraduate institution; and eloquent and enthusiastic outreach and communication.
