Position Summary:

The Center for Human Genetics & Genomics (CHGG) at NYU Grossman School of Medicine (NYUGSoM) is the locus of genetics and genomics research, education and clinical service across the NYU Langone Health system (NYULH). We are seeking a Director of Genetics and Genomics Education at the CHGG, who will initiate, coordinate, lead and evaluate education activities across NYUGSoM and NYULH in partnership with other clinical and research departments, the Vilcek graduate education program and the Office of Diversity Affairs. The Director of Genetics and Genomics Education will report directly to the CHGG Director, Dr. Aravinda Chakravrti and  in consultation with the Vice Dean for Education, Faculty and Academic Affairs.” The successful candidate will lead and champion a leading state-of-the-art genetics and genomics education program and continuing education program for medical and graduate students, residents and clinical fellows, physicians and medical staff, including two new innovative programs: Advanced Clinically-Intensive Science Selective in Human Genetics in year 3 of the medical school and a MS degree program in Genome Health Analysis. This education leadership position is an integral part of NYULH’s strategic plan to advance implementation of clinical genetics and genomics across our health system.

Job Responsibilities:

• Medical student education
  • Responsible for leading curriculum development for human genetics courses in medical school years 1 and 3;
  • Teach, organize and identify instructors for basic human genetics and genomics (YR1);
  • Teach, organize and identify instructors for an Advanced Clinical Intensive Science Selective in human genetics and genomics (YR3);
  • Represent the program at NYUGSoM and CHGG education and curriculum meetings.

• Physicians and medical staff
  • Establish effective mechanisms to support continuing education in human genetics and genomics to ensure physicians and medical staff keep pace with this complex and evolving field
  • Organize minicourses on clinical genetics and genomics in consultation with clinical departments and their genetics needs
  • Organize content for minicourses with CHGG and other genetics faculty
  • Assess effectiveness of minicourses

• Clinical fellows and residents
  • Work with residency program directors to improve human genetics knowledge in the GME education curriculum

• Master’s of Science Program
  • Lead program management at NYU and provide oversight of marketing, recruitment and admissions committee efforts;
  • Work with and recruit faculty to develop curriculum for the program;
  • Participate as a leading teaching faculty in the program;
  • Lead efforts to identify student advisors, mentors, internship opportunities, and career pathways, to support students as they pursue academic, personal, and professional development through the program;
  • Create instruments for objective program evaluation and assessment and;
  • Work with Associate Deans and Directors to continually improve the program to achieve student satisfaction, top student recruitment, and program goals and outcomes (i.e., time to degree).

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in human genetics, genomics or genetic counseling from an accredited program. Expert understanding and experience of human genetics in a clinical setting as well as teaching experience. Able to work and communicate effectively with both internal and external collaborators. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. Demonstrates leadership qualities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Five (5) years experience as a genetic counselor, physician and/or genetics education experience. Training in modern education methods and best practices.
