Description: The Gas Construction Inspector ensures that projects for the installation, upgrade, and repair of gas facilities are completed on time, within standards, and in compliance with state and federal regulations. This role is critical for ensuring public safety, proper project oversight, and adherence to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Enforce compliance with all applicable operating and maintenance procedures. Coordinate project administration, including scheduling, cost control, site communications, and project documentation. Inspect worksites for safety compliance with OSHA, DOT, and traffic safety standards. Investigate citizen concerns and implement corrective actions when necessary. Support emergency response efforts and participate in on-call rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
Minimum Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED. One year of specialized or technical training beyond high school. Five years of related work experience. Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered. Licensing/Certifications:
Operator Qualification. Valid Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience installing or repairing residential and commercial gas lines. Experience investigating gas leaks. Background in municipal gas or water distribution systems. Seven or more years of construction experience. Experience monitoring traffic and safety conditions at construction sites. Familiarity with GIS mapping systems and utility marking protocols. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of gas system codes, regulations, and safety guidelines. Proficiency with gas system maintenance and repair, including mains and service lines. Ability to work with multiple gas line materials (cast iron, ductile iron, steel, plastic). Skilled in leak investigation, shutdowns, and system pressurization. Ability to use pipeline-related tools and equipment (e.g., locating equipment, CGI testers, multimeters). Computer proficiency, including GIS and work management systems. Strong organizational, supervisory, and multitasking skills.
