The City of Birmingham (EOE) is seeking a well-rounded, progressive and conceptual thinker, an collaborative professional to serve as its Assistant City Engineer. Under the general supervision of the City Engineer, performs a variety of responsible professional civil engineering and contract administration duties; monitors the management and maintenance of engineering projects; conducts surveys of utilities for potential improvement projects; reviews on site utility plans for compliance with City requirements and sound engineering principles; supervises and directs Engineering staff and handles ongoing administrative assignments.
Assist the City Engineer in overseeing, planning and directing the efficient development and construction of public works projects. Acts on behalf of the City Engineer in matters of well-defined policy, during absences and/or as specifically delegated. Prepares various written documents including Commission reports, memos, studies, etc; and attends City Commission/Board meetings as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- BS, or equivalent, in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or related field. At least 3 years of responsible civil engineering design, contract administration, and field experience.
- Successful completion of E.I.T Exam, and ability to obtain State of MI Professional Engineer License within 24 months of employment if candidate has a Bachelor of Science in an Engineering field.
- Working knowledge of MDOT Field Manager/Field Builder. GIS preferred. *Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be consider.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of Civil Engineering and/or architectural principles and practices related to planning, design, financing, and construction of municipal public works projects.
- Ability to effectively direct professional and technical Engineering team through difficult and complex civil engineering and public works programs through strong project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and well-developed PC skills.
Wages & Benefits:
- Starting salary of $93,000-119,000 DOQ, Salaried Exempt.
