Description
Leading industrial equipment and automation solutions provider in Monroe, MI is currently looking for an experienced Controls Engineer to join the team. This position offers a flexible schedule, a supportive and collaborative atmosphere, and the chance to tackle new technical challenges on a regular basis. In this hands-on role, you’ll take ownership of designing, assembling, programming, and maintaining electrical control systems for advanced manufacturing equipment. Key responsibilities include creating automation solutions, integrating control systems for new machinery, and upgrading existing systems to meet technical, operational, and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
-Develop and implement PLC programs for new equipment installations in accordance with project specifications.
-Interpret customer requirements and apply technical expertise to ensure specification compliance.
-Install and validate control systems on new and existing equipment, including machinery, robots, and vision systems.
-Design electrical control systems using AutoCAD or comparable CAD software.
-Diagnose and troubleshoot machine control issues; test solutions and document outcomes.
-Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic diagrams.
-Obtain vendor quotes, prepare purchase requisitions, and manage project budgets effectively.
-Simultaneously manage multiple controls projects, consistently meeting performance targets and deadlines.
-Create, update, and maintain internal documentation for all control system configurations.
-Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and production operations.
-Communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of management, colleagues, customers, and skilled trades.
-Travel to customer sites (up to 30-40%) for equipment installation and service support.
-Represent the company professionally while working at customer facilities.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
Shift: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some overtime required.
Hybrid work schedule: once trained, may work 1 day per week from home.
Compensation: This position offers a highly competitive base salary, 1.5x pay for overtime hours worked, excellent health benefits and generous time-off allotment.
Requirements
Qualifications:
-Associate’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
-Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a controls engineering role.
-Extensive PLC programming experience required, with strong preference for Allen Bradley and/or Siemens platforms.
-Experience with robot programming is preferred.
-Familiarity with vision systems and industrial sensors is a plus.
-Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics.
-Proficient in CAD tools for electrical design work.
-Proven ability to work independently and manage complex tasks effectively.
-Strong troubleshooting skills, with a track record of identifying and implementing successful solutions.
Ability to travel 30-40% of the time
