Department Overview
In today's world, where people's lifestyles and values are diversifying, the challenges in marketing research are becoming increasingly sophisticated and complex. To address these changes and derive deeper, more fundamental insights, we leverage over 100 million pieces of big data connected through the common ID of the Rakuten Group. Our mission is to provide new value across the entire marketing process for our customers.
Within the Rakuten Group, there is growing anticipation for new data businesses that utilize our unique and vast data assets. In December 2024, we will implement an organizational restructuring that integrates Rakuten Insight, Inc., Rakuten Insight Global, Inc., and the Super Mini Job business, establishing a more robust synergy creation system for data utilization.
Under this system, we aim to further accelerate the use of AI technology, automate and enhance data analysis, provide real-time insights, and improve the quality of decision-making support. Our goal is to create new value that brings innovation to companies' marketing activities.
The Ad & Media Solutions Department provides problem-solving marketing support to a diverse range of clients, including advertising agencies and media companies, by leveraging marketing research, AI technology, and the extensive data assets held by Rakuten. The department is composed of several specialized groups responsible for developing data-driven decision-making products, designing and promoting services such as advertising effectiveness measurement and brand lift studies, building and operating data-related operations, and planning and delivering marketing research for both domestic and international markets.
Working in collaboration with these specialized groups, Marketing Research Consultants (Sales) deeply understand clients' marketing challenges and provide optimal solutions. This department offers the opportunity to engage in proposals and solutions for complex and advanced issues that go beyond traditional marketing research.

Position Details
We are seeking Data Engineers/Data Analysts for our Data Solutions business. You will play a crucial role in supporting decision-making through data utilization projects commissioned by internal and external Rakuten clients. This includes organizing data specifications, extracting and aggregating data, building BI tools, and creating analytical reports. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of tasks, including product development utilizing the extensive data assets held by the Rakuten Group.
Responsibilities
- Utilize the extensive data assets within the Rakuten Group to support decision-making and new business development for both internal and external clients.
- Extract and aggregate data using SQL.
- Propose and build BI tools.
- Create analytical reports using BI tools.
Job Satisfaction

Currently, our team consists of 7 members, each leveraging their expertise and skills in areas such as data processing and BI development. Our clients include various Rakuten Group businesses, external business companies such as manufacturers, and advertising agencies.

The majority of ourteam members joined Rakuten Insight as mid-career hires. Many initially built their careers as Marketing Researchers or Directors responsible for collecting survey data and then transitioned to Data Engineer/Data Analyst roles to broaden their career horizons. Additionally, we have team members who gained experience in BI development and data analysis at companies engaged in data business and were attracted to the extensive data assets held by the Rakuten Group.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Over 3 years of experience in big data processing using Python or similar languages
- More than 1 year of practical experience in data aggregation and analysis using BI tools such as Tableau
- Ability to clearly define requirements for big data aggregation and analysis and drive projects forward

- Practical experience in improving work efficiency using programming languages such as Python
