Position Overview:
The Design Engineer (P. Eng.) brings strong experience and carries the main responsibility of design activities for residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional structures impacted by disastrous incidents. This role applies advanced technical expertise backed by demonstrated experience to complex design challenges while working very closely with Drafting and Project Managers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all levels of design work including highly complex projects.
- Involvement in all activities within the Technical Design division, ensuring compliance with industry standards, building codes and company expectations.
- Act as the liaison with clients, contractors, building owners, and building officials on complex technical matters and issues requiring resolution.
- Verify the obtaining of architectural and structural measurements and preparing of rough sketches while on site if needed.
- Research failure modes and code requirements as required. Authenticate all prepared necessary reporting and permit drawings generated outlining all restoration/renovation work.
- Validate structural design and drafting of detailed drawings for restoration of damaged structures using sketches obtained on-site using Autodesk Revit.
- Review and provide feedback on drawings created by all drafters to ensure quality, consistency and to foster a supportive/developmental environment.
- Ensure all team members are trained, and practice proper safety protocols and PPE is supplied and appropriately used.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment, ensuring clear communication and collaboration across all teams.
- Continuously monitor and assess departmental processes and procedures; identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance efficiency.
- Contribute to annual performance reviews for designers, providing feedback and development plans to guide career growth.
- Address performance concerns promptly and provide support for improvement where necessary.

Requirements
Qualifications:
Education: University degree in civil/structural engineering (P. Eng) or a related field.
Experience:
o A minimum of 10 years of experience in structural design, with specific expertise in wood frame construction.
o Experience managing a team is an asset.
o Extensive experience with Parts 3,4 & 9 of the Ontario building code.
o Hands-on construction/site experience in residential and commercial wood frame construction is an asset.
Skills and Knowledge:
o Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and CAD software.
o Strong technical acumen and ability to oversee projects.
Licensing & Certifications:
o Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a properly insured vehicle.
Communication Skills:
o Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to both internal and external stakeholders.
Work Location: Office based in Burlington, Ontario and site visits as required.
