- Engineer I (Technical Services)
Description
The Engineer I for Technical Services performs advanced technical design/permitting and management duties in conducting and supervising the preparation of project work plans, cost estimates, contract administration, creation of technical reports, specifications & engineering calculations. Holds project meetings ensuring work procedures are followed, and coordinates/manages the participation of consultants, engineers, designers, and contractors. Attends meetings with the public and engineering consultants, project design work, project permit review and approval, conduct studies and develop reports, and other miscellaneous engineering projects. Oversees and responsible for engineering review, traffic/stormwater studies, access management, approval and inspection of residential, and non-residential Site Developments, Right-of-Way (ROW), and Finished Floor Elevation Waiver Permits. Conducts and manages the preparation and creation of stormwater design and retrofit plans/reports and calculations.
Essential Functions
- Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
- Oversees and professionally responsible for performance of engineering related design, calculations, reports, analysis for various county related projects, as well as work of staff associated with and in performance of submitted permit applications such as plats, improvement plans, residential and non-residential applications, stormwater applications, roadway/traffic improvements, and studies, etc.
- Conducts project meetings to ensure work procedures are followed, and coordinates/manages the participation of consultants, engineers, designers, and contractors.
- Supervises the preparation of project work plans, cost estimates, contract administration, and creation of technical reports, specifications and engineering calculations.
- Attends meetings with the public and engineering consultants.
- Performs design work, conducts studies, and prepares reports.
- Involved with the county’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
- Responds, analyzes, and designs retrofit projects to reported drainage concerns
- Prepares presentations and attends the Planning and Development Commission Board (PDC), Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and other review boards as necessary.
- Creates, drafts, and publishes policies and procedures for the Engineering Division, Permitting, and Staff Management.
- Interprets, resolves, and enforces the County’s Land Development Code (LDC), Comprehensive Plan and other regulatory guides, and recommends changes as needed
Minimum Requirements
Education, Training, and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- Four (4) years of progressive experience in Civil Engineering (Transportation/Stormwater)
- Experience in stormwater design, transportation/roadway, utility, site, pavement design, and infrastructure construction.
Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of drainage, hydrology, and hydraulics.
- Working knowledge of AutoCad/PONDS/AdICPR
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida.
