Description
Cargill Deicing Solutions (CDS) operates two underground salt mines that produce bulk and specialty deicing salts to customers to keep roads safe in the wintertime. This is an onsite engineering position at Cargill’s Lansing, NY location. The Engineer II will focus on optimizing the interconnected components of an underground mining operation and the surface infrastructure supporting the mine. We seek a professional who will develop and apply engineering standards and procedures relating to concepts such as project management, rock mechanics, mine planning, ventilation, hoisting systems, materials handling, environmental management and safety best practices.
Key Accountabilities
- Collaborate with plant management and other engineers for operational planning, troubleshooting, and design for business and production optimization.
- Help conduct cost/inventory/production control and feasibility studies to develop and implement plans for facility modifications and revise operating methods.
- Act as a project manager responsible for business case justification, communication with consultants, document control and design review, schedule and budget management, creating job plans, progress communications, and contractor safety oversight during construction on moderate to complex projects.
- Be accountable for project reliability deliverables such as management of change, proper material and parts selection, job aid creation, and maintenance stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of an operation to effectively implement project deliverables in an industrial setting
- Support, coach and mentor other employees of cross-functional teams as necessary
- Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Geology, or similar)
- Minimum requirement of 2 years of relevant work experience in a mining or other heavy industrial setting.
- Must be willing to work in an underground environment
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
- Commitment to actively contribute to Cargill’s safety culture
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical writing skills and proven track record of creating and communicating business case justifications and project proposals
- Experience with data analysis and problem-solving applications in an industrial environment
- Effective stakeholder communication and engagement skills including verbal, written, and presentation
- Experience applying instrumentation, automation, and control systems in a mining or manufacturing setting
- Familiarity with one or more mining engineer concepts including but not limited to rock mechanics, process engineering, exploration, ventilation, mine planning, water management, hoisting systems, materials handling, etc.
- Knowledge of MSHA regulations and mine safety best practices
- Experience with SAP
