Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic/ Electrician
Department: Maintenance
Plant Location: Fairland, IN
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic at Jupiter Aluminum is responsible for ensuring the continuous and
eicient operation of production equipment in the aluminum rolling mill. The role involves
troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic
components, gearboxes, bearings, and conveyor systems. The Maintenance Mechanic works closely
with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime, optimize equipment reliability, and
ensure safe operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanic:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment, including rolling
mills, annealing furnaces, casters, coating/finishing lines, and material handling systems. - Diagnose and repair gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, couplings, pumps, hydraulics, and
pneumatics. - Perform precision alignments using laser/dial indicators.
- Fabricate, weld, and machine parts for repairs and modifications.
Electrician:
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot AC/DC motors, VFDs, and motor control systems.
- Diagnose and repair electrical circuits, control panels, wiring, sensors, and lighting systems.
- Troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs), HMIs, and related automation
equipment. - Perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, including inspections, cleaning,
tightening, and testing. - Use electrical test equipment (multimeters, meggers, oscilloscopes) to diagnose problems.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, and company electrical safety standards.
- Support capital projects and upgrades involving electrical systems or automation.
Hydraulics, Pneumatics & Lubrication
- Maintain and repair hydraulic presses, pumps, cylinders, valves, and accumulators.
- Troubleshoot pneumatic valves, actuators, compressors, and filtration systems.
- Follow lubrication programs, ensuring proper greasing, oiling, and fluid monitoring.
Safety & Compliance
- Strictly follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), arc flash, confined space, and hot work procedures.
- Adhere to OSHA, NEC, and company safety standards.
- Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Documentation & CMMS
- Use CMMS to document maintenance work, track work orders, and log preventive maintenance activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Work in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noise, dust, grease,
and metal shavings. - Work in high heat areas near furnace, requiring heat-resistant PPE.
- Frequent exposure to oils, lubricants, coolants, and industrial chemicals.
- Work in tight spaces, climbing ladders, working on elevated platforms, and in confined areas.
- Regularly handle heavy components, tools, and machinery in a production environment.
- Required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime based on production demands.
Qualifications: Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or vocational training in industrial
maintenance, mechanical systems, or a related field is preferred. - Minimum of 2-3 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably aluminum or heavy
manufacturing environment. - Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
- Experience with gearboxes, bearings, motors, pumps, and conveyor systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills, including welding experience.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, laser).
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for work order
tracking and preventive maintenance is a plus. - Forklift certification or experience operating material handling equipment is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs., including tools and machine components.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tight spaces.
- Standing for long periods while performing maintenance tasks.
- Use of hand and power tools, requiring strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Work in hot, cold, and outdoor environments as needed for emergency repairs.
- Operate forklifts, hoists, and other material handling equipment to move parts and tools.
