The Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District is an Independent Special District located on the Southwest Florida Coast. The District is a diverse and unique beachside community experiencing tremendous growth and known for being a premier vacation destination. The District serves approximately 6,000 full-time residents, part-time residents, and over 40,000 seasonal and international tourists.
The District is seeking Firefighter Paramedics and Firefighter EMTs currently enrolled in a paramedic program. National Certified Paramedics who are qualified to enroll in Fire School will be considered for District sponsorship at the Southwest Florida Public Safety Academy.
The ideal Fort Myers Beach Firefighter Paramedic is a skilled professional with expertise in emergency medical care and fire suppression. The candidate is proficient in patient assessment, trauma care, and medical transport, while also capable of performing rescue and firefighting operations. Calm under pressure and committed to teamwork, they prioritize public safety and deliver compassionate, efficient service in every emergency.
The Firefighter Paramedic works under the direct supervision of the Company Officer, representing the District in a professional manner by being well groomed, courteous, and tactful in all interactions with the community and other agencies.
Benefits
- Employee and Family Healthcare: The District is proud to provide 100% Employee Healthcare. Full Family Health, Dental and Vision coverage is also provided at an employee co-share of 15%. Family health benefits are valued at $25,180 annually before co-share. The District also provides a pre-tax plan for the cost of medical related expenses through a Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
- Retirement: An excellent retirement plan is provided by the District through the Florida Retirement System (FRS). The employee contributes 3% of wages, and the District contributes 35.19% of gross salary, equaling a total contribution of 38.19%. Additional retirement plans are available in the form of a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan.
- Personal Paid Leave (PPL): PPL, Holiday Pay, and other benefits can be found in the District 3 Collective Bargaining Agreement, available upon request.
- Education, Development and Training: Education development and training is highly valued by the District and funded for the employee upon completion of the probationary period.
Compensation
Annual Base Pay:
- Probationary Firefighter Paramedic - $65,217 (candidates with prior firefighter/paramedic experience may be eligible to start at a higher rate)
- Probationary Firefighter Paramedic (FMBFD Credentialed) - $84,556
- Non-Probationary Firefighter Paramedic range starts at - $94,114
Following the probationary period additional compensation levels are available through formal education incentives and service time.
The most current version of the District 3 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) outlines all pay and benefits for the position of Firefighter Paramedic. Requirements
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Copies of the following requirements must be submitted with the application
- Non-smoker/non-user of tobacco affidavit for at least one year prior to application.
- Must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Florida Driver’s License (or eligible to obtain within 30 days of employment)
- Florida State Certified Firefighter (if dual certified)
- Current National or Florida State Paramedic Certification (Nationally Registered Paramedics will be required to successfully complete the Florida certification (see Florida Health Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) online) or current EMT Certification and proof of current enrollment in a paramedic program
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS/ACLS
- Emergency Vehicle Operations Certificate (16hr)
- Current Candidate Physical Ability (CPAT) Certification
Note: The District will give preference to candidates living within a 50-mile radius of the District’s boundary.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate Degree or higher in Fire/Science, EMS, or a related field from an accredited college or university is desired
