Senior Backend Engineer - Video Processing

Remote (Preference for Western Europe)

€100K-€125K + Equity

A high-growth sports media SaaS company, backed by elite investors and professional athletes, is hiring aSenior Backend Engineerwith deep technical expertise in video processing. This is a pivotal role supporting the only current video engineer on the team and helping scale a product used by some of the most prominent sports organizations globally.

The position isremote-first, with occasional in-person meetings inParis. Candidates inWestern Europeare preferred for time zone alignment.

The Role

You'll work side by side with the company's current video engineer to scale, optimise, and innovate on their backend video infrastructure. The platform supports live and on-demand sports media workflows and requires high-performance video clipping, transcoding, and distribution pipelines.

You'll be building critical backend systems that:

• Transcode and clip video content for real-time delivery
• Handle multiple input and output formats with low latency
• Support live media ingestion and distribution
• Integrate tightly with the AWS stack and cloud-native infrastructure
• Power end-to-end media delivery pipelines for elite sports clients

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain video processing pipelines using tools likeFFmpeg
• Design and scale backend services forlive and on-demand video workflows
• Work closely with the video engineer to own technical decision-making and system design
• Ensurereliability,scalability, andperformanceacross all media systems
• Develop tools to support internal automation and media workflows
• Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver video-based features and solutions end to end

Required Experience & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a backend developer withdeep expertise in video engineering
• Proven track record building and maintainingvideo-centric backend systems
• Strong programming skills inC, C++, Python, or Go
• Expert-level knowledge ofFFmpeg, video codecs, containers, multimedia formats, and streaming protocols
• Experience with cloud platforms such asAWS,Azure, orGCP
• Familiarity withcontainerisation technologieslike Docker
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
• Experience with version control, CI/CD, and automated testing
• Previous work in companies withvideo-heavy products,such as livestreaming platforms (e.g., Twitch), video infrastructure (e.g., MUX), AI video generation, video conferencing tools, or broadcast tech companies
