Job Summary
Kaspar Outdoors is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical product design across new product development, cost reduction, and production support. This role requires deep experience in SolidWorks, design for manufacturability, and hands-on collaboration with shop teams. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and looking for a long-term career home.
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design projects from concept through production using SolidWorks.
Generate and manage 3D models, assemblies, and fully detailed 2D drawings.
Apply GD&T and tolerance analysis for reliable, manufacturable designs.
Select appropriate materials and components for strength, cost, and performance.
Maintain engineering documentation and change control through SolidWorks PDM.
Collaborate directly with CNC programmers, machinists, and manufacturing staff.
Support prototype builds, tooling/fixture design, and testing.
Troubleshoot design issues using root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Mentor junior team members in design principles and workflow.
Lead design reviews and contribute to lean manufacturing initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Skills and Competencies
Proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM with parametric modeling expertise.
Strong knowledge of GD&T, DFM/DFA, and tolerance analysis.
Practical understanding of machining, CNC processes, and shop-floor realities.
Clear communicator with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Dependable, detail-oriented, and steady under pressure.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
5+ years of mechanical design experience in a production/manufacturing environment.
Mastery of SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
Proven ability to take designs from concept to production release.
Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
Demonstrated history of stability and long-term career commitment.
Preferred:
Background in firearms, outdoor gear, defense, or precision manufacturing.
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
Experience mentoring junior engineers.
Work Environment
Manufacturing environment requiring PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes).
Combination of office work and hands-on shop involvement.
Physical Requirements
Sitting or walking for extended periods (33%–75%).
Stooping, bending, twisting (10%–25%).
Lifting up to 25 lbs occasionally (0%–33%).
