HDR is bringing on a Senior Engineer to support impactful water projects within our Water Business Group and contribute to company-wide specification development. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a background in water, wastewater, or water resources who thrives in project environments and is also interested in shaping the tools and standards that support technical excellence across HDR’s broader engineering practice.
This position will be approximately 50% focused on direct project work in the Water Business Group and 50% dedicated to HDR’s Engineering Master Specifications System (MSS), which serves teams across the company.
In this role, we'll count on you to:
Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to develop specifications and construction documents for active water-related projects.
Provide engineering support and guidance on specification and contract document development for project delivery.
Support construction contract administration, including interpretation of specifications and resolution of claims.
Assist the Engineering National Specifications Manager in maintaining, updating, and developing master specification content.
Work with technical specialists across business groups to enhance HDR’s MSS library of over 500 specifications.
Support Alternative Delivery and Owner’s Advisor (AO) teams in tailoring specifications for various contracting environments.
Educate staff on best practices, products, and specification development.
Coordinate with Professional Services Director to prioritize and track technical specification development.
Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor degree in water/wastewater/water resources, environmental, civil, or structural engineering; Master’s degree can offset experience.
Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license
Minimum 10 years of engineering experience, including design and construction phases.
Experience with specifications development and construction contract administration.
Familiarity with CSI formats, EJCDC, AIA, and DBIA documents.
CSI certifications (CCS, CCCA, CDT) are a plus.
Experience with specification management tools such as Chalkline VisiSpecs.
Proficiency with Microsoft SharePoint.

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Minneapolis, MN: $123,260.00 - $176,085.00 annually; Chicago, IL/Denver, CO/Folsom, CA: $129,129.00 - $184,400.00 annually; Bellevue, WA: $140,868.00 - $201,240.00 annually; New York, NY: $146,738.00 - $209,625.00 annually.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering or combination of education and relevant experience
A minimum of 5 years experience working with specifications
Knowledge in the ability to recommend materials, procedures, and technical specifications requirements and contents
Experience with Microsoft Office
