Senior Manufacturing Engineer w/Zoox Inc. (San Carlos, CA)
Support the introduction of new products through development of production assembly/test/inspection procedures, fixtures, and equipment. Take ownership of new products during the pilot production phase & design validation phase through successful product launch. Drive new product introduction schedules, resolving manufacturability issues, and driving improvements in cost and efficiency. Provide product and process DFM (Design for Manufacturing) input to Product Development Engineering to enhance manufacturability and control product cost. Create an efficient manufacturing assembly flow, specifying and/or refining BOMs, workflow processes, and detailed NPI work instructions. Establish and develop concept process, including, estimated standard time and costs. Develop robust, efficient, scalable manufacturing processes and establish best practices and standards for creating MBOM and BOP utilizing PLM systems for integration with ERP and MES systems. Design and create production equipment, fixtures, and tests as needed to build the production line. Provide training and support to engineering technicians. Provide technical support analyzing and/or performing failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies, and field returns. Manage outside vendors and contract manufacturers. Lead/participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on material cost reduction, capacity enhancement, and streamlining of the supply chain. Support, maintain, improve, modify, and further develop the manufacturing line as needed for sustaining production. Lead programs for assigned manufacturing responsibilities. Mentor and guide junior manufacturing engineers and engineering technicians. Supervise Manufacturing Engineers/Technicians. 10-20% domestic and/or international travel.
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Industrial, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering and 5 years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineer position working with electromechanical manufacturing equipment. In the alternative, the employer will accept a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Industrial, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering and 3 years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineer position working with electromechanical manufacturing equipment. Experience must include the following: analyzing and performing failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies, and field returns; designing and creating production equipment, fixtures and tests to build the production line; working with new product introductions through the development of assembly, test, and inspection procedures; reviewing existing product design and provide design for manufacturing feedback during prototype builds; and working on value stream mapping, lean six sigma, root cause analysis, kaizen, and time study analysis. $156,000-$189,000/year
