Software Engineer
Thumbtack, Inc. (San Francisco, CA) to be responsible for applying engineering and mathematical principles to design and build software infrastructure to maintain stability and scale; developing software for proprietary applications and large-scale distributed systems, using a variety of scripting languages and big data ecosystems including Hadoop/HDFS, Hive, and Spark; building new product features and architecting infrastructure to support a fast-growing user base, using Python, Javascript, Go, Scala, and PHP; debugging software and maintaining operational systems for website; writing high quality, maintainable code with large-scale distributed systems using tools in the big data ecosystem; defining and implementing standards that help the company create a consistent, quality experience for its users across all software interfaces; conducting statistical analysis and verifying quality of code using A/B testing; building out alerting and monitoring for production systems; collaborating with engineering, product, and design groups to execute on a diverse range of software development projects and gathering valuable user insights for both internal and external clients. Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IS, Engineering or a directly related field. Must know (through academic training or work experience) engineered backend features using Go in a distributed microservices architecture with a PostgreSQL database; building iOS features in Swift focused on proactive home maintenance; define and deliver feature requirements; conduct A/B tests and experiments to validate product hypotheses and improve the overall user experience; Computer Structures & Real-Time Systems, Database Systems, Digital Control Applications, Software Testing, Quality Assurance and Maintenance of Programming for Performance. May work from home anywhere in the continental U.S. $135,699 - $140,000/yr.
