Position Summary:
Midnight Sun AUS is looking to hire an on-site Construction Superintendent to manage the overall construction of multiple Federal projects at NIH in Bethesda, MD, and the surrounding area. This position may function in concurrent roles.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Pre-Job Startup:
- Visit and familiarize with contractor and site; assess project specifics; attend mandatory preconstruction meeting with Project Manager and manufacturer; coordinate personnel access and stock itinerary.
- Install systems according to material manufacturer requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations.
- Visit jobsites as directed to record information needed by the estimating department.
- Assist Project Management to schedule material and labor with other departments and service as needed.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure the jobs run on schedule and under budget, and all information and materials needed by the Foremen are provided in a timely manner.
- Review jobs with Project Manager and Foreman including scope of work, submittals, schedule, and contract; establish lines of communication and areas of responsibilities with GC/Owner regarding change orders, billings, etc.
- Interface with Warehouse:
- Create pre-job equipment list including safety, specialty equipment, and rentals. Schedule trucks, equipment deliveries and returns.
- Serve as liaison between field and shop regarding materials needed on a daily basis.
- Project and Field Support:
- Review scope of work with Foreman/Project Manager warehouse and field as required. Supervise Foreman.
- Track labor expended to production per man day.
- Generate extra work orders not in contract and secure backup.
- Coordinate receipt of daily job reports.
- Investigate any incidents (OSHA, thefts, etc.), document and submit to Safety Director immediately.
- Provide assessment with all related backup documentation.
- Coordinate scheduling of subcontractors through final closeout of project.
- Complete pre-inspection punch list with Foreman prior to inspection.
- Complete manufacturer's final inspection in conjunction with punch-list crew.
- Finalize outstanding items with GC/Owner.
- Confirm issuance of warranty.
- Provide contact with customer to review job progress.
- Conduct daily visits to all active jobsites to ensure progress with established production goals and obtain information needed by Project Management.
- Document job progress including photos to be downloaded to project folder.
- Administrative:
- Manage performance and assist with completion of evaluations of assigned employees.
- Evaluate projects which are running over budget and identify factors (bad estimate, added enhancements, unforeseen conditions, etc.)
- Critique for options of cost control. Exposure assessment to be done early-on, in writing, describing deficiencies/shortfalls of both labor and materials

Minimum Requirements:
Education and Industry Experience
- High school diploma required, 2+ years further education or training preferred.
- 10+ years satisfactory work record as a Superintendent on similar size Federal contracts.
- Previous experience supervising and leading construction crews and subcontractors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of construction practices, techniques, codes, and regulations.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of construction tools, machinery, and material handling equipment safely.
- High level of organization with scheduling, and record keeping.
- Excellent time management with the ability to prioritize work-load in a dynamic environment with changing or variable priorities.
- Strong communication skills, orally and in writing. Bilingual in (Spanish) preferred.
Certifications/Licenses/Other
- Valid state driver's license required, CDL preferred.
- OSHA 30 and CPR/First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to obtain/maintain all required security and access requirements for the contract(s).
Work Environment:
- Performance of the required job duties will be in a construction environment, which may include various weather conditions.
- Responsible for driving between project sites that may be separate from the assigned office location.
Physical Demands:

- Ability to walk terrain and surfaces that may be far or uneven.
- Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and squat.
- Ability to frequently use hands to operate tools and machinery.
- Ability to regularly climb ladders.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust between.
