Leidos’ Defense Systems Land Systems is seeking a Sustainment Chief Engineer to join the Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2 (IFPC Inc2) Program, which is a ground-based, mobile system that aims to combat cruise missiles and unmanned aircraft systems. The IFPC Inc2 system protects and defends civilian and military infrastructure and bridges the gap between tactical short range air defense systems and our strategic systems. The Sustainment Chief Engineer will track sustainment-related activities, such as Root Cause analyses of in-service problems (Operational hazards, Corrosion effects, Reliability Degradation) and Logistics deliverables (user manuals, emplacement procedure, repair/replace procedures, and others) for fielded IFPC Inc 2 launchers and report their status to the program’s technical leadership. Additionally, this Sustainment Chief Engineer will serve as a technical liaison with customer representatives and users. This position is highly visible and ensures that fielded systems remain operational, reliable, and safe.
A successful Sustainment Chief Engineer will lead in the following:
- Root cause analysis of in-service problems such as:
- Operational hazards
- Corrosion effects
- Reliability degradation
- Special Considerations for Software Sustainment Engineering
- Support to LOG IPT from engineering perspective
- Input to user manual
- Input to emplacement, load/reload
- Input to repair/replace procedures
- Engineering disposition of rework/repair on maintenance items
- Spares packaging development/review - will require drawings
- Provisioning conference input from engineering perspective including drawing plan
- Support to track in field configuration changes/updates
- Development of field service bulletins
- Development of required design changes to resolve operational issues
- Materiel Improvement Plan (MIP) review boards
- DMSMS mitigation
- Parts obsolescence
- Technology Refresh
- Technology insertion
- Engineering dispositions
- Technical manual and technical order updates
- Repair or upgrade vs. disposal or retirement
- Maintenance evaluation automation
- Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)
- Development of engineering cut in execution plan
- Log documentation update
- Field retrofit kits
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with 12+ years of experience or an MS with 10+ years.
- Basic understanding of weapons platform systems development lifecycle.
- Experience leading cross-discipline and product teams.
- Demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment, including leading and conducting technical reviews.
- Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
- Possess a secret clearance, or have the ability to obtain a secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will also have experience and/or working knowledge with:
- Logistics deliverables and activities, such as user manuals, repair/replace procedures, and field service bulletins
- Reliability analyses such as Failure causes and effects, reliability and maintainability trends, and parts obsolescence
- Working directly with system users
- MBSE and requirement management tools.
- Effectively leading a team of engineers.
- Accurately estimating the engineering effort (i.e. hours) associated with Systems Engineering tasks.
- Understanding of the DoD acquisition processes and methods
- Experience supporting one or more DoD programs
- Object Management Group (OMG) Certified System Modeler Professional (OCSMP) certification
- INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification - CSEP Level

Pay Range:
Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
