- Systems Engineer, Senior (P&FCO Safety)

Basic Commerce and Industries, Inc. (BCI) is seeking senior-level (15+ years' experience) candidates to fill one (1), full-time position providing support in the area of Systems Safety Engineering in support of topside safety inspections onboard ships via contract to Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD).

Experience Required: This position requires 15+ years of recent general systems engineering / combat system experience gained while on active duty surface combatants or amphibious ships. Successful candidates must possess strong Combat Systems and Weapons Systems knowledge and be familiar with shipboard topside configurations and weapons systems. Former Navy senior enlisted Gunner's Mate (GM), Ordnance Technician (Surface - 616X, 716X), Fire Controlman (FC), or related specialty a plus. Two (2) years' experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Tertiary education in mechanical engineering, software engineering or other related technology programs would be a plus. Experience using AutoCAD and modeling software is highly desired. Successful candidates must have also demonstrated ability to perform analysis and problem-solving techniques necessary to execute professional scientific/engineering work.
Description of Duties: This position will have responsibility working with NSWCDD Platform System Safety Branch (B51) to conduct Pointing and Firing Cutout (P&FCO) zone inspections per NAVSEA INSTRUCTION 9700.2; performing P&FCO inspections onboard ship including carrying of necessary equipment; operating gun, missile, and directed energy systems; identifying new or altered shipboard structures that impact firing zones; analyzing P&FCO designs in order to generate official certifications; designing and adjusting firing zones; and producing technical documentation. Individuals will be required to learn and use AutoCAD and in-house software and database tools to perform analysis, perform model updates and corrections, generate official certifications, and manage records. Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to perform efficiently and effectively on multiple projects under tight deadlines. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the BCI team and customers. Successful candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders onboard Navy ships, provide onboard ship support in homeport locations throughout the year, and perform other onboard ship duties as required.
Travel: Frequent travel - at least one week per month - is required
